I was born in July, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, was graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1967 with a BA in Philosophy, and earned my Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago in 1971. My emphasis was in Biblical Studies. My Internship was served in the South Bronx. I was married in 1971 and Ruth and I are the parents of a son, Ryan, who lives in Fairfield with his wife, Liz; our granddaughter Petra Lily was born in September 2007.
For me the worship life of the congregation forms the core of our ministry together as Pastors and people. I find the preaching task one of the most fulfilling of my role as Pastor. I enjoy preaching, teaching, and leading retreats, and have a genuine appreciation of the importance of careful planned administration in the life of a parish. Happily, nurturing a vital and active lay leadership is a significant part of the pastoral task here at St. Matthew. It is a privilege to share the joys and sorrows of contemporary life with the people of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, and to serve as a Pastor in this caring place.
My faith is constantly nurtured and informed by the image of radical forgiveness and acceptance offered through Jesus the Christ.
My ministry of 38 years has been in the New England Synod, in fact, in the state of Connecticut, beginning in the small town of Brooklyn, Connecticut, at St. John's, then at Our Saviour's in Fairfield, and now for the last 25 years, here in Avon at St. Matthew. The ministry here has changed and grown and I like to think I have grown with it, even as this call has nurtured me. We began our Intern Program in 1986, and strengthened the staff in 1999 with the calling of an Assistant Pastor. We reshaped that model in 2003, continuing to retain the Intern program and calling Pastor Geoff Sinibaldo to serve with me at St. Matthew as Associate Pastor.
