Called to St. Matthew, October, 2003

My ongoing enjoyment of this parish is the faith of our children and their parents. We continue to expand and deepen our ministry with our young people and their families through education, music and fellowship opportunities. At the center of our life together is our worship life where God meets us in community with the promise of Christ given in Word and Sacrament. Fun and laughter are God’s gifts to us as we learn, grow, serve, and live faithfully.

(Posting My Own Theses on the Castle Church Doors, Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, 2006)

(Square in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, 2006. Town Church of St. Mary in Background)
In 2006 my family and I had the opportunity to go to Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, Germany as part of a ministry opportunity that offers worship and pastoral care to English speaking residents and visitors to the heart of the Reformation (http://www.wittenberg-english-ministry.com). From the church doors where Luther posted his 95 Theses, to the members of the community now seeking faith in a post-communist East Germany, Lutherstadt-Wittenberg provides an amazing sense of place to explore not only our Christian heritage in the Lutheran tradition but also contemporary issues. It is my hope to take a pilgrimage there again with the people of St. Matthew in the coming years. (The ELCA also has a center in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg.
