About Our Church

St. Matthew Lutheran Church, serving over 270 families in the Farmington Valley of Connecticut, is a member congregation of the New England Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).  www.elca.org

You are invited to worship with us and to share in the many programs of our congregation. Should you wish to join this community of faith, you are invited to speak to Pastor Carter.

A very real part of our ministry together includes our care for one another. We gather to worship with words of prayer and praise and thanksgiving to our God. St. Matthew strives to grow also in acts of welcome, learning, friendship, fellowship and love.

Two morning worship services at 8:30 and 11:00, a pipe organ, and Youth and Adult Choirs enrich our corporate worship life. Nursery care is available during both services.

Through the leadership of our Church Council, committees seek to enrich the lives of our members and also to minister to the needs of the surrounding community.

A complete Christian education program is offered in our Sunday School, with Christ-centered programs for three year olds through high school age. A growing children’s ministry and music program, as well as many fellowship events provide opportunities to grow in our relationships as we center our life on worship, learning and service. Adult Forum studies Biblical and religious topics in an informal setting. In addition, a Confirmation program, study and small groups, a Vacation Bible School, and a variety of special interest programs further the teaching of the Word.

The Youth Ministry program enthusiastically involves our young people in grades 7 through 12. As a ministry with and by youth, it provides opportunities for fellowship, learning, and service, both on a local level and at gatherings of the larger church.

Since 1986 St. Matthew has participated in the Intern Program of the ELCA, helping to prepare ministers for their professional lives in service. Each intern spends an active year as a staff member before returning to the seminary for their final year in preparation for ordination to the ministry of Word and Sacrament.

Welcome to our community. May our friendship be ever deepened through our fellowship in the oneness of God's Spirit. If we can be of any assistance to you, please feel free to contact us.
